"Unity" means one, so the units digit is the digit in the ones column. A short tutorial to learn how to calculate the unit digit of the number with simple examples.
Eg. for the number 237, the 2 is in the hundreds column, the 3 is in the tens column and the 7 is in the ones column. So, the unit digit for the number 237 is 7.
Finding the unit digit of any number is based on the place value chart.
Place Value Chart:
As shown in the figure above, the unit digit of the number 2342395 is 5. As number 5 is in the ones column which is the Unity.
Likewise, if you want to find unit digit of any numbers just fill in the columns in the place value table.
Few Examples:
1) How to find unit digit of a number 8596.
By using the place value chart, we know that 8 is in the thousands column, 5 in hundreds column, 9 in tens column and 6 in ones column. Hence the unit digit of a number 8596 is 6.
2) How to find unit digit of a number 23
23 = 2 x 2 x 2 = 8
Where 8 is in the ones column and hence the unit digit of 23 is 8.
