How do you find the efficiency of a pump ?
Pump efficiency is the ratio of the power imparted on the fluid by the
pump in relation to the power supplied to drive the pump. Learn how to
calculate efficiency of a pump/centrifugal pump using below simple
steps.
Formula:
Pump Efficiency (n) = WHP/BHP
Where,
WHP - Water Horse Power
BHP - Brake Horse Power
Step 1: Example
Lets
consider an example where the power imparted on the water by the pump
is given as 12 Horse Power, and the power supplied to drive the pump is
given as 15 Horse Power, then to calculate the pump efficiency, use the
above formula.
Lets assign the values as below to calculate the centrifugal pump efficiency.
WHP (Water Horse Power) = 12
BHP (Brake Horse Power) = 15
Step 2: Substituting the values,
n = 12/15=0.8
To express in percentage multiply by 100.
Pump Efficiency (n) = 0.8x100=80%
