How to calculate your grade point average (GPA)?
GPA means Grade Point Average. Its the measure of students average grade.
Formula for GPA Calculation
GPA = Total Grades / Total Credit Hours
Total Grades = Σ( Grade * Credit Hours )
Step 1: Lets assume the Grade points to map.
Grade | Grade Points |
A+ | 4.3 |
A | 4 |
B+ | 3.3 |
B | 3 |
C+ | 2.3 |
C | 2 |
D+ | 1.3 |
D | 1 |
F | 0 |
N | 0 |
Step 2: Calculate the Grade points of each subject. Let us consider the subjects like English, Maths and Science.
Step 3: To find the result, lets map the grade points of each subject in the given formula.
Total Grades = Σ (Grade * Credit Hours)
Total grades in English = 4 x 2 = 8
Total grades in Maths = 3.3 x 5 = 5 x 3.3 = 16.5
Total grades in Science = 4.3 x 7 = 30.1
Step 4: Find the total credit by adding the credit hours of all the subjects.
Total credits = 2 + 5 + 7 = 14
Step 5: Add the total grades of all subjects.
Total grades = 8 + 16.5 + 30.1 = 54.6
Step 6: Substitute the values in the below formula to find the average grade points.
GPA = Total Grades / Total Credit Hours
GPA = 54.6/14
GPA = 3.9
