Short tutorial on what is EIRP and how it is calculated.
The measured radiated power of an antenna in a specific direction is EIRP. The Effective Isotropic Radiated Power calculation determines the radiated power given the transmitter power, the cable loss to the antenna, and the gain of the antenna. This tutorial helps to know how to calculate EIRP.
EIRP Formula :
EIRP = PT - LC + Ga
Where,
PT = Output power of the transmitter (dBm)
LC = Cable loss (dB)
Ga = Antenna Gain (dBi)
Effective Isotropic Radiated Power Calculation
Step 1: Lets consider an example
Output power of the transmitter is 27, Cable loss is 12 and Antenna Gain is 45.
Step 2: Substitute the values in the formula,
EIRP = 27 - 12 + 45
= 15 + 45
= 60
