How do you calculate bsa (body surface area)?
Body Surface Area (BSA) is a measurement of surface area of human body in medicine for certain clinical purposes. It is the total surface area of the human body. It helps in determining the medication dosages. Here we have used Boyd's formula to find the Body Surface Area.
BSA (m2) = 0.0003207 x Height (cm) 0.3 x Weight (g) (0.7285 - ( 0.0188 x log10 x Weight (g))
Step 1: Let us consider an example to calculate the BSA.
A boy measuring 160 cm and weighing 53 kgs.
Height = 160 cm
Weight = 53 kgs = 53000 g
Step 2: Substitute the values in formula,
BSA = 0.0003207 x 1600.3 x 53000(0.7285 - (0.0188 x LOG(53000))
BSA = 1.5466 m²
