AVERAGE Function in OpenOffice Calc

Arithmetic mean is defined as the average of a set of numerical values. It is calculated by adding all the numbers and by dividing the total with the number of terms in the set. OpenOffice Calc is designed to calculate mean of a set of numbers dynamically using the simple formula AVERAGE(number1, number2...)

How To Calculate Mean In Open Office Calc
There are two methods of calculating the mean in OpenOffice Calc.
1)Using the Functions Icon Functions Icon
2)Using the Function Wizard Tab

Method 1: Using the Function Icon
This is the simplest method to calculate the arithmetic mean of a set of numbers.
Step 1: Open a file in openoffice containing sample data to find the arithmetic mean. Keep the cursor on the cell where you want the mean to be calculated (say E7) and click on the functions icon Functions Icon at the right corner as shown in the picture.

Step 2: You could see the Functions Tab which lists default mathematical functions.
Select Average Function
Step 3: Double click on the AVERAGE function.

Step 4: The Average formula is now displayed in the selected cell (E7) as AVERAGE(number). Complete the formula, by selecting the set of numbers for which you want to calculate the arithmetic mean and Hit Enter.
Here, Drag the cursor from E2 to E6. Now, the formula is AVERAGE (E2:E6), Hit Enter.

Step 5: The arithmetic mean of the set of numbers is calculated and displayed as 78.

Method 2: Using the Function Wizard Tab
It is a manual method to calculate the mean in OpenOffice Calc.
Step 1: Open a file in an open office spreadsheet containing sample data to find the arithmetic mean. Keep the cursor on the cell where you want the mean to be calculated (say B7).

Step 2: Go to Insert → Functions or Press CTRL+F2.
Find Average Using Function Wizard Tab
Step 3: Function Wizard Tab will be opened. Double click on the AVERAGE function from the list of functions displayed in the selection box.

Step 4: Complete the Formula AVERAGE() with the required cell numbers as shown in the figure. Here, we need to calculate the mean of set of numbers from B2 to B6, hence the formula is AVERAVE(B2:B6). Press OK Button.
